The Braden/Michels Project Canadian-American Collaboration The Braden/Michels Project is a binational ensemble led by Toronto vocalist Julie Michels and New York saxophonist Don Braden. The group just completed a series of performances and workshops in Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt at the first edition of the Jazz Tales Festival.
A special fundraising dinner and evening of great jazz featuring the music of Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire, arranged and performed by New York-based saxophonist/flutist and JazzWorks Guest Faculty Member Don Braden, with an all-star ensemble including JazzWorks faculty members David Restivo (piano), William Carn (trombone) and Julie Michels (voice) as well as bassist JP Lapensee and drummer Jamie Holmes.

Jazz Tales Festival
The Braden/Michels Project are back from their weeklong stint in Egypt at the Jazz Tales Festival, a brand-new music festival produced by the American University in Cairo and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
This four-week event, organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the American Consulate in Alexandria, and the American University in Cairo, pays homage to some of the most significant chapters in jazz music's storied evolution, with the narrative told through a series of concerts and workshops by world-class international musicians in Cairo and Alexandria. This first edition of the Jazz Tales Festival ran from March 7 to April 1 2017.

The Braden/Michels Project Fronted by Canadian vocalist Julie Michels's mighty, glorious holler and the shimmering, virtuosic playing of American saxophonist/flutist Don Braden, the Braden/Michels Project is a powerhouse ensemble bringing together some of the best artists on the North American jazz scene.
Julie Michels Toronto-based Julie Michels has performed, toured and recorded with Kevin Barrett, George Koller, Ottawa's Chelsea Bridge, the MCCT Choir (Diane Leah, Musical Director) and her own bands, Sutra and Parlay. One of her greatest honours was to perform at the State Funeral for the late Jack Layton, Leader of the NDP of Canada.
Don Braden An award-winning composer, arranger, educator/clinician, producer and engineer, Don Braden has toured the world leading his own ensembles on saxophone and flute, as a special guest, and as a sideman with jazz greats Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Tony Williams, Roy Haynes, and many others.
