Originally from Western Canada, Judith graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, majoring in flute and voice. A symphonic flutist, music educator, adjudicator and arts administrator, Judith ‘s early career also included terms with the Saskatchewan School of the Arts and the Saskatchewan Arts Board.
A visionary in the field of jazz education for adults, Judith founded and developed JazzWorks Canada, an Ottawa based jazz education organization and registered charity, dedicated to the development of jazz performance through educational and collaborative activities and the presentation of visiting artist performances, which is now in it’s 27 th year of operation. With Judith as Executive Director, the innovative nature of JazzWorks Canada’s efforts to develop adult jazz musicians in local communities has been internationally recognized through feature articles in DownBeat Magazine.
Judith’s management experience also includes a successful career in communications and public relations, along with over 25 years in leadership roles, such as Artist Liaison, Series Coordination and Board Vice Chair and Chairperson within the Canadian Jazz Festivals milieu.
In 2012, Judith founded Judith Humenick Productions, to provide artist management and cultural consulting and production services, specializing in career development and event production for Canadian and international jazz and visual artists. A past board member of JEN (the Jazz Education Network) Judith has maintained an active role in jazz education through the linking of workshops and clinics with tours and performances for JHP artist clients, around the world.
Through active involvement in international jazz trade fairs and showcase events, Judith has built a broad international network of jazz industry contacts, whose trust in her artistic judgement has led to a wide range of new performance and educational opportunities for JHP artists. Judith has also developed strong working relationships with many of Canada’s Embassies and High Commissions. In recent years, these relationships have enabled JHP artists to tour, perform and teach in the UK, Europe, South Asia and the Middle East and have led to new artistic collaborations. In a constantly changing global environment, these opportunities to carry out cultural diplomacy and jazz audience development are providing JHP artists with new platforms to share their original music and artistic product.
